| The Bible teaches that baptism is for the remission of sins. Every person whose conversion is recorded in the New Testament was baptized. Why do so many tell us that baptism has nothing to do with conversion? | |||||
They: those who obey from the heart that form of doctrine which was once and for all presented to man.
Hear: Luke 19.10 tells us Jesus Christ came to "seek and save the lost." Salvation is found only in his name. "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4.12). Jesus said, "...I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14.6). He died for our sins (I Corinthians 15.3; Hebrews 2.9). He was raised from the dead, by which we are justified (Romans 4.25). He alone is the author and giver of salvation (Hebrews 5.8-9). He has the authority to speak about salvation and how to obtain it (Matthew 28.18).
Believe: Everyone must believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God. "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins" (John 8.24; Hebrews 11:6).
Repent: Jesus said all men must repent of sins to be saved. "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent" (Luke 13.3,5; Acts 2.38; Acts 3.19; Acts 17.30).
Confess: Jesus said all men must confess him before men. "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 10.32; Acts 8.37; Romans 10.9-10).
Be Baptized: Jesus said all men must be baptized (immersed) in water for the remission of sins. "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost" (Mark 16.16; Acts 2.38; Acts 22.16; Romans 6.3-6; 1 Peter 3.21).
Live Faithfully unto death: "...Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life" (Revelation 2.10; Matthew 10.22; I Corinthians 15.58).
God authored it in eternity. God breathed it through Christ. Christ confirmed it by His death on the cross, the burial of His body in the grave, and by His resurrection from the bonds of death and the grave, all in submission to the Will of the Father. Is any more testamony needed? The word of the Lord, our saviour Jesus Christ, was enough in the first century for the early Christians. It has not changed in the two thousand years since. It is confirmed from the depths of the grave to the heights of heaven. Ignoring men, let the Lord himself speak, telling us what we shall do to be saved.
