“THINGS PREPARED BY GOD”

One of the great evidences against evolution is the truth that every house is built by someone (Hebrews 3:4). If something exists, then how did it get here? The argument from scripture is that God is the origin of all things (Genesis 1:1). Those who believe in evolution have a universe and this small planet earth to explain. Where did it come from? If the materials of which the earth is made are eternal then they have always been here. If the materials are not eternal (which the existing laws of science so state), then all we see around us had a beginning. What caused it? How did it get started?

Those who enjoy a constant walk with God are drawn deeper into spiritual things (I John 1:7). How could we enjoy fellowship were it not for God who provided such fellowship (I John 1:3)? The truth is that all spiritual blessings are in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). Those who are outside of Christ do not enjoy this spiritual relationship prepared and provided by God through His Son, Jesus the Christ. How can an individual know what those blessings are? There is only one way for him to know and that is by a search of scripture and properly handling said scripture (II Timothy 2:15).

Paul makes a contrast with wisdom that comes from man and wisdom that originates from God. The wisdom of man will come to naught (I Corinthians 2:6). James describes the voice of worldly wisdom as being, earthly, sensual and devilish (James 3:15). The evidence of such worldly wisdom is envy, strife, confusion and every evil work (verse 16). If one for instance wishes to have the wisdom of Aristotle then you read the writings of the man. If one desires the wisdom from above, then one must read what God has written to obtain that wisdom.

God has prepared many things for those that love Him (I Corinthians 2:9). Are such things shrouded forever in mystery? The answer is “no”. God has revealed them to us by His Spirit (verse 10). Am I left then to have some mysterious action on the part of the Spirit of God that will enable me to understand truth? Paul argues that because we have received the Spirit of God then we know the things which are freely given to us as His children (verse 12). How then do we receive this information from the Spirit? It is by “words” which the Holy Spirit teaches. The Spirit of God compares spiritual things with spiritual (verse 13). How could you possibly compare something without words being used?

The longer one stays in the study of God’s will as revealed in Scripture, the more understanding takes place in the heart of man. We are commanded to build on our faith (II Peter 1:5). We can never be satisfied with the level of knowledge that we now possess about God. There is that burning desire to go on to perfection (Hebrews 6:1). What would be the origin of that desire but God? How could God instill in our hearts the desire for us to know more about Him? It is from the Words that the Holy Spirit inspired men to write which causes the desire. The things that have been written are written to generate faith in Jesus the Christ.

We, therefore, do not trust our feelings because they can betray us. We do not trust the men who would influence us above that which is written (I Corinthians 4:6). Our faith in Jesus comes from the Word of God (Romans 10:17). How can we serve Him and live for Him, day by day? The desire to do so is given us by God. How does He give us that desire? He gives us that desire by revealing His will to us in the written Word. He tells us how to live in this present world. We deny ungodliness and worldly lust and live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world (Titus 2:12). We search for those sublime truths offered to us by God through His Word. We seek daily to make application of those truths by bringing our hearts into contact with the perfect law of liberty (James 1:25). What all has God prepared for us? As the old song used to convey the meaning, “it is no secret what God can do”. Far too many spend time trying to uncover the mystery where there is no mystery.

What a joy it is to have fellowship with God and with His people, daily. As we turn the pages of the Scriptures we can learn more and more what God will do. God has prepared so much for those who love Him and demonstrate that love by obedience to Him.
